Mary-Anne, aged 29, was told by her medical specialist that she was the worst case of endometriosis he had ever seen and that she would never become pregnant. As well as the endometriosis and apparent infertility Mary-Anne had recurrent sore throats, enlarged lymph glands and constipation at times. She also had a history of childhood eczema. She had some facial hairs which was an indication of some hormonal imbalance. Mary-Anne had been taking the contraceptive pill for a number of years before she decided to try and become pregnant.
Over a period of several month May-Anne was treated with the following:
- general vitamin and mineral supplements with additional:
- iron,
- calcium,
- magnesium,
- zinc,
- vitamin C and
- essential fatty acids.
- a diet that contained plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables.
- lymphatic and liver cleansing herbs:
- burdock,
- violet leaves,
- dandelion root and leaves,
- fringe tree,
- centaury and
- wahoo.
- herbs to assist in balancing the hormones and supporting the uterus:
- black cohosh,
- chasteberry,
- false unicorn root,
- licorice, and
- motherwort.
May-Anne was overjoyed when she became pregnant after nine months of treatment. She had been trying to conceive for many years. Treatment was continued throughout the pregnancy - with some herbal modifications to support the pregnancy. She continued in her work as a teacher until she was seven months pregnant. There were no complications and she delivered a health girl.
Endometriosis involves uterine tissue growing outside the uterus wall and therefore away from where it naturally belongs. The tissue is under hormonal control and thus bleeds into the pelvic cavity each month. This is the main reason for the pain suffered. Adhesions can easily form and involve the bowel and fallopian tubes. The uterus itself is often involved with unhealthy endometrial tissue which include the presence of cysts which infiltrate the uterine wall. The uterus becomes enlarges and infertile.
